viral videos

What makes a video go viral? For my Topics in Public Relations class, we had to choose a topic to focus on that related to social media and public relations. My topic was viral videos. I researched what factors make a video go viral and provided examples of how videos were used in public relations campaigns. One example of this was of the Domino's crisis when two employees posted a video that could have destroyed the Domino's brand for good. The CEO however, responded with his own video that you can watch here. He showed transparency by creating the video and was able to get his real emotions across to the audience.

So how does this all relate to public relations? Well, public relations practitioners can benefit from using videos in their campaigns. Videos are an excellent way for companies to get creative and to interact with the audience on a more personal and visual level. There are also a number of platforms, like YouTube, Vimeo, and UStream, that make it easy for videos to be a part of the social media world.

I want to know your opinions.. what do you think about using videos in public relations campaigns? Are they effective or not?
